I was going to translate my review for the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover here, but then I found Nicole’s review and it says pretty much everything I’d say and a few things more, so I recommend you go over there and read it.
But I can tell you I really loved the result with this product. Here is how it worked in my own cuticle:
Hi there, I hope everything is going well with you! *-*
Today I’ll show you a little experiment I did and worked really well! The inspiration came from the Brazilian soap opera “Verdades Secretas”. One of the characters is wearing the Mac Sin lipstick, gorgeous:
Then I wanted something similar! But since buying every single shade of Mac lipstick is out of the question right now (unfortunately), I took advantage of what I had and came up with a combination that I loved!
First I used my Revlon Colorstay Lipliner in Chocolate, which is a beautiful color by itself. Being a lipliner, it is a bit dry and very matte. Here it is:
Then I applied Mac’s Creme in Your Coffee over it. It has a cremesheen finish and is quite moisturizing. Here’s the result!
I just loved it! If you have any such combinations do share it with me!
Mary Kay Shell lipstick – I forgot about this one for a few weeks and then when I wore it again it was instant love! It’s a perfect pinky nude for my skin color.
It has a creamy finish, and looks even more natural if you blot it a little. I love nude lipsticks, it’s a subtle effect that makes a world of difference. You look put together in a I-wake-up-like-this kind of way.
Compared here with Mac’s Creme in your Coffee:
They look really similar before you apply them, but then you can see clearly that the Mac is slightly darker and more brown than pink.
And finally them both with another nude from Fenzza, color “01”. I love this lipstick and its color, despite the generic packaging, but it lacks in durability compared to the other two. A matching lip gloss is also included, which I like to apply at the center of the lips to get a fuller effect.
When I went to Seattle earlier this year I tried to travel really light, since I was going to carry everything around by myself. That’s when having a travel kit can help you a lot!
I’m going to show you a few things I bought once I got there, which were the shampoo, the body wash and the facial scrub.
Pantene Pro-V Volume Silicone Free Shampoo: This one had a texture quite different from what I’m used to, a bit more viscous. I thought it was good but nothing special, and as I said in another post, I was more interested in trying the Aussie line.
Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Scrub: I’m so glad I got this one. I’ve been using facial scrubs at least three times a week lately, and I see a big difference compared to when I’m just using the regular soap. My skin feels much cleaner. I had heard of this one through other bloggers before, and now I also recommend it!
Softsoap Body Wash, Juicy Pomegranate and Mango Infusions: I just loved it, it smells great! And as specified in the package, it comes with little moisture beads. Me likes.
You can barely see the shampoo in this picture, but it is there!
I was glad I found those travel sizes, I bought them at a Walgreens close to the hostel where I stayed. It would be a waste to buy the normal sized ones because of the limits for liquids when flying, you’d probably have to throw them away!
I’ve had so much to do this week! I finally found some time to take care of my nails. I bought this nail polish when I wanted to try a softer shade, so I chose this lovely nude by Brazilian brand Risqué.
The first time I applied it I thought it looked a bit too subdued, but after a day or two I was already in love! I’ll try it with one of the Konad stamps to add some detail and see how it looks.
The coverage is quite good, I applied only one generous coat. Now I want to try other similar colors! Do you have one you’d recommend? I’d love to hear about it!
After reading about the wonders of silk pillowcases here and there on the internet I decided I should look further into it. And after finding out it was pretty much a sleeping beauty treatment, I decided I needed one, you know, to see by myself if it really worked such wonders (but if it didn’t I’d still be happy to have such a fancy pillowcase).
Second, I like quality and they are quality. A nice contrast with the rest of my bedroom. Makes me think about how far can I still go to a fancy lifestyle where the rest of my house will actually match a silk pillowcase.
But enough of my reasons, let’s go to the facts:
No more bad hair days: Silk has amino acids in common with your hair, and its smooth surface helps reduce the damaging friction that often causes split ends. It also keeps your hair more hydrated, while cotton absorbs most of its natural moisture.
That means your curls will be still looking good in the morning if you have them, not nearly as much tangles when you wake up and – yay – no super frizzy hair either.
All this works the same for your skin, which will stay smooth and hydrated (which maybe is not the best deal for super oily skin though). And you know when you wake up to see the creases of your pillow all pressed into your face? You’ll get less of those too.
Besides, cotton not only absorbs the moisture from your skin and hair, but also much of the skin care products you use hoping to see miracles over night, potentially diminishing their effectiveness. Seriously, cotton? Stop hindering our aesthetic efforts.
Silk fiber is produced with little chemical exposure, because the silk worms are raised in captivity. So I won’t be sleeping in the middle of chemicals without knowing it (I never felt anything, and I’m sure I would never notice, but it’s another benefit, good).
It’s naturally hypoallergenic because mites, fungi and molds apparently do not like silk.
Silk 5 x Cotton 0
LUXURY folks, sophistication. I love feeling like a lady sleeping on it. Good to think about riches and fancy lifestyles and motivate me to go study/work, because it ain’t gonna fall into my lap, you know.
So, I ordered mine from Amazon, and even though I live in Brazil it arrived quickly, just about over a week. I chose white because I wanted the most natural version.
It came with these instructions, if anyone needs, or are curious (and also because I want to throw the paper away, but just in case I need to take a look at it again, here it is):
Care instructions: Dry cleaning or washing by hand are the best methods for cleaning silk for longer periods of time. In contrast to the widespread opinion that silk can only be dry cleaned, washing silk by hand or on a gentle or hand wash cycle can be done without causing any damage. If using a washing machine, we recommend placing the garments in a mesh washing bag to avoid scratching or pulling of the garment. To wash by hand, please pay special attention to the following instructions: -Do not use harsh detergents that contain bleaches or brighteners. -Use cold to lukewarm water and mild soap such as baby shampoo –Add a few drops of hair conditioner to the final rinse water for an extra silky feel. -Never spray silk with perfume or deodorant -Never bleach silk To dry: Wrap silk in a dry towel then lay flat Never wring dry Never expose silk to direct sunlight for longer periods of time To iron: Always iron the backside only Never treat individual stains with water or spray silk with water while ironing. Do not iron at a high setting!
And then it goes on talking about the instructions to cashmere and bamboo stuff.
Notice the bolded line. Those instructions actually give a useful beauty tip! I would never think of using hair conditioner like that!
Now the before and after. I went to bed with nice, tidy hair in the first picture, to wake up like that. I went to bed with damp hair in the second, which usually makes things worse. And woke up like this. Magic.
Posting undignified first-thing-in-the-morning pictures, for the sake of science
I’ve been using it for a month now. I’m carrying this piece of cloth to every trip, hotel, mountain camp, sleep over party and such from now on.
Seriously, it’s a delight to sleep on it. I also found out that Beyoncé and Marilyn Monroe are among the devotees. I’m never letting this pillowcase go. If you want to see for yourself, you can find it here.
Did you know about this? Let me know in the comments!
I was taking a look at my YouTube account, specifically that playlist with your liked videos. So, I found some good stuff there (some I hadn’t listened to for a while), and I chose the best videos to share here. I’m sure you’ll find at least one song on the list that you didn’t know about!
And this is a playlist that really showcases my personal taste because when I want to listen to music, usually the first thing I do is open YouTube!
People frequently ask me what kind of music I like. And I’m always “hmmm… well… a bit of everything”, which simply gives you no idea at all hahahaha!
With this one you can go through heartbreak with dignity. João Gilberto, Brazilian Bossa nova singer and songwriter, with Stanley Getz, American saxophonist. While you’re at it, go listen also to Retalhos de Cetim by Benito de Paula.
Just listen to this voice! Pay attention at 1:50 – it’s like his voice touches heaven and comes back. Amazing. Ivan Rebroff was a German singer, and “performed over 6,000 concerts in his career, including a two-year seven-day-a-week stint at the French opera, singing and acting”, says Wikipedia. He was also very charismatic. Definitely not a voice you can find at every corner.
Beautiful. And kind of sad. Cesária is a Cape Verdean singer and one of the themes of her songs is the Cape Verdean diaspora – basically, there are more Cape Verdeans living abroad than at home. She sings in Cape Verdean Creole, which still has lots of similarities with Portuguese.
Shreya Ghoshal is the playback singer in this video. The Indians say Aishwarya Rai, the actress, is the most beautiful woman in the world, and every time I watch this video I’m almost convinced they are right. And seriously, how can I learn to dance like that? I think I’m going to spend a holiday in India!
I’m always impressed with how much beauty you can create with a minimalist style. Arvo Pärt is an Estonian composer and this piece was featured in the soundtrack of the Italian movie “La Grande Bellezza” (which is how I found it).
Zara Larsson is a Swedish singer and I first heard about her because of some controversy caused by something she posted on her Instagram. I just love how she is so young and talented rocking some Beyoncé-style moves in this vid.
Galantis is also a Swedish electronic music cat duo (Do you know what “cat duo” reminds me of? This video). You know one of those YouTube random finds that you watch a million times? So, this was my latest one. Great visuals. Also, I love city lights and this video has plenty of it. What can I say? I wanna run away!
Being able to take a stroll in the streets of Paris, walk through a crowded city in Japan, take a look at what a day of work in a German radio station is like, or participating in a conversation between friends in a pub in California. All this from the comfort of my home. Being someone with a great interest in traveling and knowing more of the world and its people, how not to love this app.
I just wonder how it wasn’t done like this before. Periscope is a social network that lets you watch and share live video broadcasts very easily.
You just download it and log in with your phone number or twitter account. Be mindful though, right now Periscope does not let you change your username after you’ve chosen it! If you go with Twitter, you’ll see a list of friends that already use the app.
Once you’re in, you will see four buttons on the screen. The first is your home page, the second is a list of live broadcasts (here you can choose between a list or the world map view), the third is the broadcast button, where you can start your own stream, and the fourth button allows you to search for users and see your own profile.
You’ll get notifications every time you get a new follower, or when someone you follow starts a broadcast. Also when someone shares a private broadcast with you, or invites you to join in a stream they are watching.
During the video, you can tap the screen to give “hearts” to the broadcaster, and also send him comments. You can also tap on other people’s usernames to take a closer look at their profiles while the broadcast is running or afterwards (the streams can be watched for up to 24 hours).
That’s the basic you need to know to use this fabulous app! :)
Have you tried it yet? Let me know what you think!
So what is this strobing trend everybody is talking about? Here is a very quick tutorial that sheds light on the matter:
It’s nothing new actually, as he says. Basically strobing is just highlighting with an oomph! It’s fresh and fun after so much contouring, looks great and also seems to be a lot easier to do and less time-consuming.
This last month it has really soared in popularity, but it has risen since May as an alternative to contouring. That is great news to many people who thought contouring was actually way too much effort (think blending!), and usually, too much product to put on your face.
It lessens the chance we will mess it all up, which is another plus! Also, you only need one good highlighter, while with contouring, besides the brighter and the darker shade, you would have to be careful not to choose the wrong tonality, like an orange bronzer that makes all your effort to have a sculpted face go to waste by looking too fake or just plain weird!
All you have to do is find the spots on your face that catch light and add to it. Pretty simple, right? No more digging for a thousand tutorials to try to make sense of all that face paint!
But for girls with oily skin, it’s better to stay away! Imagine how it would look if you added even more shine to your face, specially this much.
I’ll most certainly be giving it a try!
This trend also reminds me of the kind of makeup that is usually worn by asian girls, that seem to prefer a lighter look, instead of a bronzed one. Makes sense right, if you remember, for instance, they were the first to bring us the BB Cream, which works like a lighter foundation.
I’m a new user to Snapchat but even I couldn’t help but notice the big change that happened today: you don’t need to press and hold down on the screen to view a snap or story anymore. Just tap to view and that’s it.
It’s great to be able to see the full screen now without your thumb over it, but it also makes Snapchat a bit less unique.
What caught my attention first though, is that now you can take a series of selfies to personalise your ghost. The app takes five pictures and plays them in sequence when you open your QR code.
The update also includes a two-factor authentication for extra security and the new possibility of adding friends through screenshots from your camera roll or through the new Add Nearby feature. From the official blog: “It’s a quick way to add a group of friends when you’re all hanging out together. If everyone opens Add Nearby, a list of your friends will appear on the screen. Just tap to add.”
After the addition of the story feature, Snapchat has been increasingly popular. It seems to be on its way to become even more so.
(By the way, feel free to add me through the above code ;D)
In this video I talk a bit about what I thought of traveling alone for the first time.
It’s in Portuguese though, so here are my conclusions:
Depending on where you are going, traveling alone as a woman isn’t really dangerous. I ended up having to deal with some delays and stuff I have never dealt with on my own before, but at the end, everything went great.
Also, traveling alone and staying in a hostel you get the chance to meet lots of people and make new friends. Good stuff.
(I’m thinking about adding captions to my videos soon. Bilingual blog but videos in Portuguese, not fair, huh?)
I’m not watching a lot of our beloved Brazilian soap operas lately, yet I couldn’t help but notice this (from I Love Paraisópolis):
What a subtle, elegant, sophisticated makeup!! Notice the eyeshadow? I immediately wanted to know how to do it myself. Then I sent a message to the station asking what were the products used but haven’t heard back from them yet. I’ll update the post once I have more information.
Letícia Spiller being her beautiful self, as always
At least now we know which lipsticks the character wears, Luciana Vilela found out they are the Blankety and the Ravishing shades, both from Mac.
Also from Mac, an eyeshadow that gives a similar effect is their Paintpot in Groundwork. Already in my wishlist!
Do you also like this kind of makeup? That makes you look naturally beautiful, without too many effects?
Aussie just arrived in Brazil! All Brazilian girls crying heavenly tears of happiness!! *-*
The time of having to beg your traveler friends to bring these beloved products to your capillary happiness is now over (at least in part). So far we have three products of the Moist line being officially sold here, that is, the shampoo, the conditioner and the 3 Minute Miracle Moist.
We looove these products here in Brazil and I think they took way to long to arrive! Last month I traveled to Seattle and brought a few of them, enough for me and some friends (yeah, think desperation).
The shampoo I bought was the Total Miracle Collection 7n1, that promises a lot:
Strength against damage
Split end protection
I’m also using their 3 Minute Miracle Smooth treatment, which says it will make my hair frizz-free for 24 hours after a 3 minute application.
I’ve used both lately and honestly? I LOVE them! Really! I don’t even remember my hair becoming that soft before! The only thing that I don’t like, of course, is that they aren’t that easy to find here! Specially the shampoo, it did wonders to my hair. Hey Aussie, bring your Total Miracle Collection to Brazil too! Pretty please?
My hair was quite damaged because I swim a lot, you know, chlorine and stuff, so I was even happier to find them.
I’ll soon make another post about the 3 Minute Miracle Moist and the dry shampoo from the Total Miracle Collection that I brought and haven’t tested yet. They also make a lot of promises, so I hope they will deliver the same results!
Thanks to my friend Verena for being the mastermind behind these pictures!
You know when you buy two separate pieces of clothing that match so well you simply can’t help but always wear them together? That was the case here. Brown + see through and lace.
I love how well this dress goes with the headband and I also love the idea of a pretty look in a pretty kitchen making a pretty dish like this or this. I wish we had more time at home to make custom dishes instead of ordering delivery so frequently. Although I know that due to circumstances this is a lost cause to most of us (we all have such crazy schedules), I still want to learn how to make traditional family dishes like peta and our chicken pie, and create a cooking portfolio for myself. In the recipes section I will document (with lots of pics, yay!) my attempts to expand my basic culinary abilities and maybe share some easy improvised meals for when there is no time to make something more elaborate (and I’m not expecting to come up with anything too fancy in the near future – basic abilities mean basic).
Hopefully I’ll inspire you with some useful ideas for your own table!
A few friends have asked me for tips and tutorials, so maybe more people would benefit if I started posting it in a blog format. It will also give me room to consistently expand the topics covered.
Here I’ll talk about beauty and make reviews of products, share with you what I have been using and loving lately, my (mis)adventures in the kitchen, take note of my wardrobe in the form of “closet” picture posts (I don’t dare say I could be a fashion blogger though, hahaha! But let’s try to improve.)
Then, what better way to improve life than being knowledgeable about it? So I’ll share hacks and tips that may seem simple, but add up over time. I’ve experienced it myself when I started digging and applying tips I’ve learned from other people. Things that have helped me beautify my own life and make it a bit better each day.
Beauty is also about how you use your voice, your posture, walk etc, and these are things I would like to develop further as well and will share here as I do.
Basically you’ll find here anything I feel can help beautify the life of women such as ourselves ;D
And probably some glimpses of my own life as well.
